UL Lafayette Presents Cajun and Zydeco Night at the Blue Moon Saloon

Come enjoy and dance to the music of UL Lafayette’s very own Cajun bands and zydeco band! Most of the musicians in these groups are full-time university students getting college credit to play this music, but they are ready to deliver some prime-time entertainment for you.

The McKinley Street Merrymakers play traditional Cajun music with a lineup of accordion (Gracie Babineaux, of the Babineaux Sisters), two fiddles (Leeann Law, Lucy Rhymes), guitar (Devin Sonnier), and some French vocals from all four. Their guru is Dr. Chad Huval, who also teaches accordion at the university and plays with the Huval Family Band, Acadien Cajun Band, Jambalaya Cajun Band, and others.

The Angelle Aces are a traditional Cajun trio featuring Luke Huval (Huval-Fuselier Cajun Trio) on accordion and fiddle, Ailee Pardi on fiddle, and Renee Reed (Shrugs) on guitar. Their teacher and sage is Kristi Guillory, accordionist and co-founder of Bonsoir Catin.

The Zydeco Ragin’ Steppers play a range of traditional and contemporary zydeco with a dash of swamp pop. They include graduate students Marie-Laure Boudreau on accordion and vocals, Jesse DelGizzi on electric bass and Kylie Veazey on rubboard. Undergraduates Jeremy Domangue (guitar), Fabian Bernard (guitar), and Travis Leblanc (drums) round out the band. Their capable guiding hand is provided by Nathan Williams Jr, leader of Lil’ Nathan & the Zydeco Big Timers.
